1. Scope
This policy explains how Things (“we,” “us,” or “our”), the publisher of Audio Finder, handles information in the Audio Finder macOS app, the optional Audio Finder Browser Connector for Chrome and Brave, the website at audiofinder.app, and support communications.
2. Information the Mac app processes
Audio Finder uses a public macOS Core Audio capability to determine whether an app is using audio output. To show and focus a source, the app processes app names, process and bundle identifiers, and current or recently active output state on your Mac.
- Audio Finder does not record, capture, save, upload, transcribe, or inspect audio content.
- It does not request microphone permission.
- App and audio-output state stays on your Mac and is not sent to us.
- Preferences such as launch at login, display choices, and recent-source duration are stored locally on your Mac.
The app can create a troubleshooting report for you to copy. The report contains technical status and configuration information, not audio content. We receive it only if you choose to send it to us.
3. Information the browser connector processes
The browser connector is optional and disabled until you enable it. When enabled, it reads the title, tab identifier, window identifier, mute state, and selected browser identity for non-incognito tabs that Chrome or Brave marks as audible. That information is sent only to the Audio Finder app on the same Mac through the loopback address at 127.0.0.1.
- It does not read or send URLs, browsing history, incognito activity, passwords, form data, or page content beyond the title of an audible tab.
- It does not capture or send audio.
- It does not send browser information to us or any remote server.
- Browser selection, connector consent, and connection status are stored locally in the browser.
4. Website and support information
The Audio Finder website has no account system, advertising, analytics SDK, or marketing cookies. Like most hosting providers, Vercel may automatically process limited request information—such as IP address, user agent, requested page, timestamps, and security events—to deliver, secure, and operate the site.
If you email us for support, we receive the information you choose to include, such as your email address, message, and any troubleshooting report you attach. We use it only to respond, diagnose the issue, protect the service, and meet applicable recordkeeping obligations.
5. How information is used and shared
Local information processed by the Mac app and browser connector is used only to identify and focus an audio source on your device. We do not receive it, sell it, use it for advertising, or share it with third parties.
Website and support information may be processed by service providers that help us host the site or deliver email. We use providers only for those operational purposes and require information under our control to be protected consistently with this policy and applicable law. We may also disclose information if required by law or necessary to protect rights, safety, and service security. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
6. Retention, deletion, and withdrawing consent
- Current and recent audio-source state is held locally only as needed to show it in the app and expires as the app refreshes or closes.
- Local preferences remain until you change them, clear the extension’s storage, or uninstall the product.
- You can withdraw browser-connector consent at any time in its options, clear its local storage, or uninstall it.
- Support messages are retained only as long as reasonably needed to resolve the request, maintain security and business records, or satisfy legal obligations.
- Hosting security logs are retained according to our hosting provider’s operational retention practices.
To request access to or deletion of information you sent us, email willbuildsapps@gmail.com. Because app and browser activity stays on your device, we cannot access or delete that local information for you; disabling or uninstalling the applicable product removes its access.
7. Children
Audio Finder is a general-audience utility and is not directed to children. The app and browser connector do not ask for names, contact details, accounts, or other personal information.
8. Security and international processing
The browser connector limits communication to the local loopback interface, and the Mac app uses the App Sandbox. No security measure is perfect, but we use measures appropriate to the limited information involved. Website hosting and support email may process information in the United States or other locations where their providers operate, subject to applicable safeguards.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Audio Finder or applicable requirements change. We will post the revised policy here and update its effective date. If a change materially affects how the app or connector handles information, we will provide an appropriate notice before the change takes effect.
